Farewell... For Now!

When I started writing this blog, I was aiming to bring attenuation on air pollution and its negative impacts. During my blogging, I realize that air pollution is a far more complicated problem than I originally thought. Air pollution is, with no doubt, harmful to human health and the environment. However, tackling air pollution is more than an environmental problem. It is related to a countries' economy, social and even political factors.

In my blog, I wrote about two major air pollution incident that caused severe death: the Meuse Valley and London Great Smog incident. For each event, I then introduced the major pollutant caused the incident (SO2 and black carbon respectively) and regulations about the pollutants. The clean air act in US and UK shows a relatively high effectiveness and significantly controlled urban air pollution. However, in developing nations in Asia, methods mitigating air pollution show a low effectiveness over the long term, especially when the demand for industrial production dramatically increases in recent years. As air pollution is often a transboundary problem, Asian states must cooperate together to form a legally bound agreement on air pollution and solve the problem together. Moreover, clean renewable energy and new technologies are necessary if one wants to put an end to the air pollution problems.

Through my experience of blogging, I've learnt a lot about the current situation of global air pollution problem. Although the course has come to an end, I will keep myself updated with the latest news about air pollution in the future, and keep looking for a better solution to air pollution.
